While its had its fair share of festivals and festivities, Scoraig today is a tranquil home to many.
Visitors will find two particular features of note: The Lighthouse that serves as a wee museum next to the community centre, and a seasonal pop-up cafe at the Community centre (a sign is posted outside when open).
We do ask that dogs are kept on leads, and to refrain from lighting fires (particularly as the peat below ground can catch fire and rage for days or longer).
Situated 1.5 hours drive north-west of Inverness along the A835 & A832, and 50 minutes drive from Ullapool, Scoraig is tucked-away off the NC500 next to Beinn Ghobhlach.
Life here is intimately tied to the ebb and flow of the sea and wind, and you'll find its population move with it. Please observe weather conditions before embarking on your visit.
Seasonal and formally-arranged lodgings for tourists on the peninsual are rare, but there are plenty of accomodation options to suit nearby.
Excluding by air (it has been known), visitors usually arrive on the peninsula by boat from Badlaurach jetty, or by foot around the beinn through Badrallach.
The easiest path to Scoraig is across Little Loch Broom, from Badlaurach jetty to Scoraig pier.
The ferry operates a postal service crossing mondays, wednesday and fridays at 12 noon (12:15 Badlaurach side).
For bookings at these times or otherwise, contact Lisa on 0772 086 2001 (lisa 'at' scoraig.com), or call Jonah on 0773 042 2718.
It is possible to walk from Badrallach car park around Beinn Ghobhlach and the waterfall into Ruigh' riabhach and onto Scoraig. This is strictly a footpath only, please do not attempt to drive or cycle this route. Please find a review of the walk here.
Occasionally there is seasonal accomodation offered by residents (listed below if available), and besides the plentiful amenities of Ullapool, there are a few closer B&Bs, hotels & campsites nearby:
• Badrallach Campsite - Campsite, Bothy & Cottage at the start of the walk around.
• Wee barn, Big barn - Well placed besides Badlaurach jetty.
• Dundonnell Hotel - On the NC500, situated 15 minutes by car down the road from Badlaurach jetty.
Particularly in the darker seasons, weather conditions should not be taken lightly when getting to and from the peninsula. Wind direction & speed, as well as tide level & direction, can mean the difference between safe passage and a wasted trip.
Below you'll find links to trusted weather & tide tables, as well as readings from local weather stations.
